The Pittsburgh Va’ad HaRabonim is looking to hire a part-time Executive Director to lead the operations of the Va’ad into the future. The Pittsburgh Va’ad HaRabonim which oversees kashrut, the eruv and community halachic matters is at a critical point in its 50+ year history. The new Executive Director must be a strong communicator, motivated, have an entrepreneurial mindset and be able to grow revenue in the form of generating new business, maximizing the collection of dues and fundraising. This position will be responsible for developing and putting in place standardized operating procedures for the organization that will allow for efficiency, transparency and best practices.
Duties
● Kashrus
○ Manage existing business relationships
○ Identify and develop new local kashrus opportunities
○ Supervise regular billing; follow up on delinquent accounts
○ Coordinate with head mashgiach, identify issues and problems, bring to attention of the Va’ad
● Administrative
○ Communications including keeping the website current, messaging to the community about Vaad affairs and promoting Pittsburgh to people outside the region.
○ Process all required business filings
○ Work with both bookkeeper and accountant to ensure financials are strong and salaries and bills are paid in a timely manner.
○ Develop policies and procedures that reflect best practices amongst Va’adim throughout the US
○ Coordinate fundraising efforts as required
○ Promotion of Va’ad activities
○ Ensure website contains up to date information in an engaging manner
● Va’ad
○ Coordinate and lead both Va’ad lay board and advisory committees and Rabbinic Va’ad meetings
○ Ensure action items are being addressed between meetings
○ Coordinate with Va’ad lay board and advisory committee
● Eruv
○ Supervise regular billing
○ Coordinate with Eruv examiners
● Execute on the mission of the va’ad
● Other duties as required
Preferred qualifications
● Previous executive and / or administrative experience
● Self-directed, self-starter
● Experience with Kashrus
Expected commitment
~8-10 hrs/week. Initial weekly commitment may be higher while infrastructure is being put in place.
